Spiritual Gift of the Week

We pray for the grace to open our hearts and minds to the Holy Spirit.

We ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit to intercede for us.

Spiritual Instruction of the Week

We pray for the gifts of the Spirit:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love.

Dear Beautiful Daughters of Mary,

On Tuesday, we experienced a bittersweet moment— for we had our last opportunity (at least for now) to sit at the feet of Matthew Baugh, S.J.  It is bittersweet because it is never easy to say goodbye to those we love and respect.  Matthew has been a vital part of our community since he joined the faculty at Spring Hill in 2013.  He is a stellar teacher, a prayerful man of faith, and most importantly a tremendous friend to all of us.  We will feel the loss greatly.  We are grateful to God, that in his sweetness and love, we have witnessed Matthew’s brilliance, his goodness, and his humility.

The late Cardinal Avery Dulles, S.J. gave a lecture in 2007 presenting the “shining features” of the Jesuit charism.  His list includes traits that we, as women of faith, hope to possess. Our dear Matthew Baugh embodies them all:  Dedication to the glory of God;  personal love for Jesus Christ;  to labor with, in, and for the Church; mutual union with other Jesuits, (for us this translates, mutual union with other DoM members); preference for spiritual goods; discernment; adaptability; respect for human and natural capacities; and finally, a synthesis of the active and contemplative life.

Ignatius’ hope for members of the Society of Jesus was simple and clear:  That their focus be on God, that their lives be centered on Christ, and finally, that they serve the Church.  We thank God that Matthew Baugh. S. J.  is the exemplar of this Ignatian vision.

Matthew, we will pray for you as you begin your studies in Boston.  We pray that your priestly ministry will continue to deepen within your heart and spirit.  God has graced you with many gifts.  We are deeply grateful that we have been blessed to reap the benefit of these graces.

May God keep you safe.  May God keep you holy.  May God keep you —for his greater glory.

Please pray for the Daughters of Mary.

Godspeed.

The following is an excerpt from Pope Francis’ Prayer of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.  It is meaningful for us as we approach Pentecost Sunday:

Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing,  so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,  and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,  and restore sight to the blind.  We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of  Mercy; you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

Veni, Spirito Santo, la misericordia di Dio ci salva—

Come Holy Spirit, it is by God’s mercy that we are saved,

Deb
