Dear Beautiful Daughters of Mary,

Tuesday was an extraordinary day for the Daughters of Mary. Never before have almost 100 women stayed for further reflection—- after our closing prayer! Extraordinary! For sure!
It was our privilege to host Matthew Baugh, S. J. and to hear his excellently presented and thorough insight into the story from the Gospel of Mark about the widow with two coins Dr. Baugh erased any lofty impressions about saintliness that we may have harbored. He gave us a concrete model to follow. We were challenged to reconsider this passage and guided to see the widow’s generous gesture through the eyes of Jesus himself. There are few words to express the profundity of our experience. We now look to the widow and her small gift with new eyes and a more thoughtful, discerning heart.
We are deeply grateful to Dr. Baugh. He is a scholar for sure. But more pointedly, he is spiritually astute. The combination is for us nothing less than gift and grace. Thank you Dr. Baugh. Bravo!

About November:
The feasts of All Saints and All Souls are “days of hope,” Pope Francis said this week. The virtue of “hope is like a bit of leaven that enlarges your soul. There are difficult moments in life, but with hope you go forward and keep your eyes on what awaits us….it is important to think about hope,” he stated. “The early Christians used an anchor as a symbol of hope,” he said, and “to have our hearts anchored up there where our loved ones are, where the saints are, where Jesus is, where God is — that is hope. That is the hope that doesn’t disappoint.”
We pray throughout the month of November for all the faithful departed. This year the Daughters of Mary have lost many of our most beloved and beautiful. Our spiritual tradition teaches us to rest in hope for all those who have died. Our hope lies in God’s mercy which sanctifies— and in God’s love which saves..
So we pray. We pray with hope. Ask for the intercession of our beloved and beautiful, the faithful departed, the Communion of Saints—for they celebrate our sanctity and God’s salvific love.

Preghiamo—Let us pray,
Deb
